Questionnaire Response

Lise Pinkos - Seine River

1. Why did you decide to run in the 2016 Manitoba election?

I decided to run because I am a working mom of a young daughter and I plan to raise my family in Manitoba. I want to ensure that we continue building a strong and inclusive province for all Manitoba families. Things like child care, education and health care are incredibly important to me and my family, and I know that Manitoba families rely on these services. It worries me to hear that other parties are proposing deep cuts to these essential services.

2. What experience will you bring to complement your role as MLA?

Currently, I work at the Canadian Museum for Human Rights and have been there for the last 7 years. My first job there was to travel across Canada and listen to Canadians tell their human rights stories. This was an incredible experience that reminded me that our rights are fragile and we need to participate in democracy to ensure that we protect the rights of all Canadians.

3. Is there anything in particular you would like to change in our province? In your electoral division?

As a mom, I know one of the most difficult things to do is leave your child at daycare. I am lucky to have an amazing space to care for my daughter, and I want all children and parents to have this opportunity. I am incredibly proud to be a part of a party that has committed to adding 12,000 new childcare spaces, which will help families access the supports they need.

4. What key issue(s) / topic(s) would like to stand for in your role as MLA, and why is it important to you?

Equality for women. As mentioned, I have a young daughter and I think it’s incredibly important that we do not just tell young women what they can accomplish – we need to show them. I want to ensure my daughter has every opportunity open to her. Whether that means becoming a teacher, or a lawyer, or a mechanic. We need to provide role models for our young people that shows them that there is a path forward in whatever amazing career is ahead of them.

5. What is one thing in particular that you value about the electoral division that you wish to represent?

I grew up in South Winnipeg and have always considered Seine River as part of my home and neighbourhood. Seine River is an incredibly diverse and friendly community. I have been so humbled that they will open up their doors to me, spend time speaking with me, and even invite me into their homes. As a proud franco-manitobaine it has been really nice meeting other franco-manitobans at the doorstep and seeing the proud and growing community in the area.

6. Do you have any other comments regarding your candidacy?

Thank you – to all who have been a part of this amazing journey with me.
