Questionnaire Response

Amanda Chmelyk - Spruce Woods

1. Why did you decide to run in the 2016 Manitoba election?

As a young adult, I find it extremely important to protect and build the services that families depend on. I also find Manitoba’s strong economy and jobs an important issue for young people, and I want to engage with young people on ways of keeping our economy growing.

I decided to run in the provincial election this year because I believe in the services and policies the NDP government has worked so hard to create. If elected, I hope to help further the progress.

2. What experience will you bring to complement your role as MLA?

As a recent University graduate I understand the challenges facing Manitoba’s youth. The NDP is the only party with a clear plan to help young people access good jobs here in our province, which is the kind of support I know young people need.

I also grew up in a family that relied on our health care system and disability services. As a result, I am well aware of the importance of these services and the need for continued investment. The cuts put forward by other parties will hurt the services families rely on.

3. Is there anything in particular you would like to change in our province? In your electoral division?

I would like to see accessible health care for all Manitobans, as well as improvements to our current levels of flood protection.

4. What key issue(s) / topic(s) would like to stand for in your role as MLA, and why is it important to you?

I stand firmly behind the NDP’s plan to lower ambulance fees and their commitment to public health care for the westman region. Our services are part of what makes our province and country such a great place to live, and I believe looking after the health and well being of our citizens is the best way to promote the growth and success of our province.

5. What is one thing in particular that you value about the electoral division that you wish to represent?

After moving from the greater Toronto area to Winnipeg and finally settling in Shilo, one of the things I value the most is the rural landscape and natural beauty of western Manitoba.

6. Do you have any other comments regarding your candidacy?

I believe I am the only candidate committed to building the services families depend on, like health and education. I am dedicated to making life better for working and middle class families, not just the privileged few.
