Manitoba Election 2016

1. Why did you decide to run in the 2016 Manitoba election?

I have always had a strong passion for economic and social justice. After 10 years of the Harper government, I want to prevent Brian Pallister from doing to Manitoba what Stephen Harper did to Canada. I am running to re-elect a government that will continue to make progress in health-care, education, economic and social justice and infrastructure.

2. What experience will you bring to complement your role as MLA?

I have volunteered at community hospitals where I work with patients and provide support to the heroes of health care – the front-line staff.  I have also volunteered for food banks, the Christmas Cheer Board and the First Mennonite Church’s Brave the Shave campaign fundraiser for breast cancer research

3. Is there anything in particular you would like to change in our province? In your electoral division?

I stand behind the NDP’s commitment to invest in infrastructure and flood protection as well as our pledge for a new tax benefit for working and middle class families. We will also help families by expanding child care spaces and hiring more doctors, nurses and teachers to ensure we’re providing families with the services they need.

4. What key issue(s) / topic(s) would like to stand for in your role as MLA, and why is it important to you?

What I’ve been hearing on the door-step is that front-line services like health care, education, child-care and infrastructure remain top of mind for many residents.  The NDP is committed to protecting and growing those services.

Residents also mention the economy and the need for good jobs and wage growth and a stable economy. Our planned investments in infrastructure and apprenticeships will keep generating good jobs for Manitobans.

5. What is one thing in particular that you value about the electoral division that you wish to represent?

How tightly knit and supportive our community is. I would reflect this by establishing an easily accessible constituency office so I can be an active, attentive representative for all my constituents. I want to be present for them as much as possible and to support issues and community events that are important to my constituents.

6. Do you have any other comments regarding your candidacy?

I am passionate about helping working and middle class families with investments in the services they depend on like health care and education. You can count on me to always be a strong advocate for your priorities in the Legislature.
