Questionnaire Response

Courtney Lucas - Agassiz

1. Why did you decide to run in the 2016 Manitoba election?

I care about ensuring that everyone has ample opportunity to live in healthy communities in Manitoba. Running for government is a great chance to continue to grow and protect the services that are important to Manitoba families like health and education.

2. What experience will you bring to complement your role as MLA?

I am proud to have been advocating for social justice and equality with the NDP since I was young.  I offer families in Agassiz a fresh perspective with great insight into the priorities of young people. My top priorities are investing in mental health supports, expanding seniors’ services and working alongside Manitoba’s LGBTTQ* community.

3. Is there anything in particular you would like to change in our province? In your electoral division?

We have made a lot of progress on job creation, including one of the best job creation records in the country. I believe there is still more to do, and that now is the time to continue investing in infrastructure projects that are proven to grow the economy and create good jobs.

4. What key issue(s) / topic(s) would like to stand for in your role as MLA, and why is it important to you?

Building better education –  which the NDP will accomplish by ensuring smaller class sizes, upgrading schools with the latest equipment, creating more child care spots.

Building better health care – which the NDP will accomplish by creating more quick care clinics, hiring more health professionals, reducing ambulance fees

5. What is one thing in particular that you value about the electoral division that you wish to represent?

The wonderful people who live here. I will listen to you and work with you on addressing your priorities.

6. Do you have any other comments regarding your candidacy?

Families can count on me to protect services from cuts and privatization. I am deeply committed to ensuring all Manitobans have access to the education, health care and good jobs they need.
