Questionnaire Response

Drew Caldwell - Brandon East

1. Why did you decide to run in the 2016 Manitoba election?

I want to keep working hard for Brandon. Much has happened here in the last 17 years, and we need to continue investing in the things that matter to families in Brandon – like roads, bridges and flood protection, like healthcare and education, and like community infrastructure such as the Keystone Centre and the Brandon Neighbourhood Renewal Corporation. I want to make sure that these important things continue to be there for families who count on them.

2. What experience will you bring to complement your role as MLA?

I was a three term City Councillor and am a four term Brandon East MLA. I have been an active and engaged community member since long before that. I’m really fortunate to have been involved in many important initiatives that have helped build our community.

3. Is there anything in particular you would like to change in our province? In your electoral division?

I want to continue working towards positive change – making Manitoba a more prosperous, socially just, egalitarian and compassionate province. Social justice and building community are very important principles that inform everything I do.

4. What key issue(s) / topic(s) would like to stand for in your role as MLA, and why is it important to you?

Building my community, and working hard for the people and organizations that comes to me seeking assistance. That’s extremely important to me.

5. What is one thing in particular that you value about the electoral division that you wish to represent?

Brandon brings together everything that’s great about Western Manitoba. We have great festivals, local shops and a growing arts and culture scene, but we still cherish our agricultural roots, on display every year at the Royal Winter Fair. Go Wheat Kings!

6. Do you have any other comments regarding your candidacy?

We’ve accomplished a lot over the years. We still have more to do – whether it’s roads and bridges, like the First Street Bridge and the Daly Overpass, healthcare facilities like the Cancer Treatment Centre and Regional Health Centre bed tower; the new south end school and daycare and the relocation of Assiniboine Community College to the North Hill or one of the dozens of other smaller projects that contribute to the quality of life in Brandon. Let’s continue building Brandon together.
