Questionnaire Response

Frank Godon - Arthur-Virden

1. Why did you decide to run in the 2016 Manitoba election?

At first I decided to run because the Manitoba Party asked me to due to my experience in the 2013 federal by election – then as I started to get more involved in my riding I seen the many issues and I’ve want to do something to fix them, something only someone sitting in office can do – we have some serious issues with healthcare and infrastructure to begin with and those are just a few things that someone needs to pay attention to.

2. What experience will you bring to complement your role as MLA?

My experience growing up on a farm and working in construction allows me to better understand the local issues. A person who wants to be a leader needs to learn how to listen, my time as a US Marine gives me this discipline and knowledge that is needed to be a good leader and listener. Having lived and worked in other countries gives me the understanding of how other societies deal with issues – some of the same issues we deal with here in Manitoba – and this allows me to take a look from a different angle and propose solutions to the problems – living as a caregiver to my father brings me experience with our healthcare issues and the problems with the RHA. I have more than just local experience I have a wide range of experiences that I can bring to the people of Arthur Virden.

3. Is there anything in particular you would like to change in our province? In your electoral division?

The first thing I would like to change in my electoral division and province is to get rid of the RHA’s and place all decisions at the local level again – bring back hospital boards and community involvement in our healthcare industry – take the provincial government out of the picture and decentralize not only healthcare but various other services like education etc – also there is our lower taxes and better control of Manitoba Hydro

4. What key issue(s) / topic(s) would like to stand for in your role as MLA, and why is it important to you?

How the province takes our natural resources and gives us practically nothing in return for our riding – I believe that is basic theft from the government and our people in our riding go without due to this – the bureaucracy and bureaucratic levels of government that is unnecessary and a huge waste of money needs to be dealt with – also the issues for our FN’s is very important to me as an Aboriginal person – the problems with CFS and how they steal our children for profit is only one – the ability for the Reserves in my riding to access good drinking water and sanitation is another

5. What is one thing in particular that you value about the electoral division that you wish to represent?

I make no promises but I will make a commitment to the people of Arthur Virden – I will be available and I will present when they need me – I will be a visible MLA. We have many issues and we need to address them – I am not a “Party” candidate so I can address them outside of Party lines. I work for the riding not the party

6. Do you have any other comments regarding your candidacy?

I am not an establishment candidate – our party is small and young – BUT I have a lot of fight in me to bring our issues to the attention of the Legislature and those in power even if I have to camp out in their offices to get the results needed – I never give up on issues and will continue to fight until I receive the desired answer. I work for the people of Arthur Virden and if I am not doing the proper job they hired me for by voting for me then I will resign if enough people demand it – I don’t need recall legislation to know that I am not doing a good job – so my commitment to this position is that if 40% of the eligible voters in Arthur Virden put together a petition with their signature on it then I will step down – they have an avenue to basically fire me for not doing a good job
