Questionnaire Response

Greg Selinger - St. Boniface

1. Why did you decide to run in the 2016 Manitoba election?

When I look at all that we have accomplished over the years, I am deeply optimistic about Manitoba’s future. Our community is growing, more people are moving here and businesses are thriving in Manitoba’s strong economy. I want to ensure this momentum continues and that we continue to look after the most vulnerable members of our community.

2. What experience will you bring to complement your role as MLA?

I’ve enjoyed being part of this community for the last 37 years. Representing families at both the civic and provincial levels has allowed me to know and understand local residents well. I will continue to bring this experience and a strong desire to make sure everyone has opportunities here in Manitoba.

3. Is there anything in particular you would like to change in our province? In your electoral division?

Manitobans look after one another, and it’s that sense of community and that sense of caring that we stand up for as New Democrats. We believe in strong education for all people, providing health care to everyone who needs it, and ensuring good jobs are available to all Manitobans. At the core of our party are values of inclusion, diversity, human rights and the basic principle that everyone matters. This is what we are fighting for in this election.

4. What key issue(s) / topic(s) would like to stand for in your role as MLA, and why is it important to you?

St. Boniface is home to many young families who want to ensure a bright future for their children. I will continue to invest in schools, expand childcare spaces, and ensure post-secondary education is affordable so that young people have opportunities to build a good life here in our community.

There are also a lot of aging residents here. Health care is very important, which is why we’re investing in hospitals and personal care homes. Access to French language services is also very important to families in St. Boniface.

5. What is one thing in particular that you value about the electoral division that you wish to represent?

We have a real cross-section of Manitobans living in St-Boniface — old, young, newcomers and families across the socio-economic spectrum. I want to ensure that this spectacular diversity is represented in the Manitoba Legislature.

6. Do you have any other comments regarding your candidacy?

St. Boniface is my home, and I have a deep attachment to all the wonderful people who live here. I had the privilege of representing this neighbourhood in municipal politics, and I’m dedicated to ensuring my neighbours, like all Manitobans, are looked after with the services they need.
