Questionnaire Response

Harbans Brar - The Maples

1. Why did you decide to run in the 2016 Manitoba election?

I have had a long career. I am a successful businessman and I have raised my family. I thought that it was now time to give something back to my community in which I have lived for 30 years.

2. What experience will you bring to complement your role as MLA?

I have been a businessman. The president of Unicity Taxi and President of the Manitoba Sikh society. I believe that I have the experience needed in the Manitoba Legislature.

3. Is there anything in particular you would like to change in our province? In your electoral division?

There is so much I would like to change. After 17 years of NDP government, it is time for meaningful change. We need a new way of looking at things. The old models no longer work the way they once did.

In my home constituency, we have many issues. Healthcare, the economy, social services. These are all important, but so is education. I would like to focus on improving the focus on math and sciences so our children have a chance at better jobs and a better future.

4. What key issue(s) / topic(s) would like to stand for in your role as MLA, and why is it important to you?

Education, Healthcare and the Economy are the biggest issues facing all Manitobans. M.L.A’s have to stand up and question the government but also their own policies. We need programs that work, not ideology of the left or right.

I believe that if I were elected as the M.L.A. for The Maples I would stand up and be a strong for the Maples.

5. What is one thing in particular that you value about the electoral division that you wish to represent?

The Maples is a community of families. So many different people from so many different countries. Yet we live in peace and our children grow up to be Canadians. I am blessed and thankful that I can call Canada my home.

6. Do you have any other comments regarding your candidacy?

I am honest and hardworking. I am not a politician. I am someone who lives in The Maples who wants to stand up and serve the people of the Maples.
