Questionnaire Response

Kate Storey - Dauphin

1. Why did you decide to run in the 2016 Manitoba election?

I am running as a green candidate because the other parties are out of touch with our quickly changing world. We have a chance to revitalize our rural communities by creating jobs in the switch to a clean economy, but we need to start soon. Unfortunately, the other parties just don’t get it.

2. What experience will you bring to complement your role as MLA?

I am a scientist, a farmer, a grandmother and a business manager with extensive governance board experience. I am a good listener and able to build consensus with solutions that work.

3. Is there anything in particular you would like to change in our province? In your electoral division?

I want to stop the amalgamation of our healthcare, education and other services. I want to put citizens back in control of the things which affect our everyday lives. I want tax dollars used wisely by changing the present focus on bandaid solutions into a focus on preventing problems from occuring in the first place.

4. What key issue(s) / topic(s) would like to stand for in your role as MLA, and why is it important to you?

I want to bring in a Guaranteed Annual Income program to lift our residents out of poverty and get the local economy moving. Greens will de-centralize health services and start using the hospitals in our smaller communities for common essential services like delivering babies and setting broken bones. We have a program to reduce expensive and destructive flooding. These things are important to me because I do not like seeing my home community gutted by bad government decisions.

5. What is one thing in particular that you value about the electoral division that you wish to represent?

I value the diversity of the people of Dauphin. We have so many different skills and talents and ideas. Diversity builds strong, vibrant communities.

6. Do you have any other comments regarding your candidacy?

The Greens are here to bring forward new ideas and to hold the old parties to account. Voters can continue allowing Dauphin to lag behind, or we can leap forward and elect Green MLAs.
