Kelly Nord - Kirkfield Park

1. Why did you decide to run in the 2016 Manitoba election?

The p.s.t.  increase was the contributing factor, several issues since then, like cut backs to special needs education funding, no school division budget increases for several years, our health care for seniors. An obvious  glaring issue is the current state of the Grace Hospital with the extreme E.R. wait times.

2. What experience will you bring to complement your role as MLA?

I believe my time working in the Health Sciences Centre, having worked in the warehouse allowed me to see the challenges front line and behind the scenes,  Also working for a company that sells and services the surveying equipment that Manitoba uses in our infrastructure repairs. This company allowed me to develop the mining and construction contacts needed to continue on our infrastructure repairs from Kirkfield Park and outside. As well, my agricultural support background has allowed me see just what business the farming community really bring to our economy in Kirkfield Park.

3. Is there anything in particular you would like to change in our province? In your electoral division?

I do think that elected candidates , if they do not live in their constituencys, should move back once elected. I moved back  3 years ago. You really only truly understand the local community issues when you do live in the constituency. I am not talking if you live 2 or 3 streets outside of the community, you are close enough to call yourself living in the constituency. Provincially, if promises are made about referendums, and no tax increases promises are made, and the existing government breaks them, then accountability issues, repercussions , should be instituted, i.e. bargaining  in bad faith.

4. What key issue(s) / topic(s) would like to stand for in your role as MLA, and why is it important to you?

Health care has to be the foremost issue, in regards to our seniors population.  The Grace Hospital with at one point, having the worst E.R. wait times in the country, is one example. Infrastructure is a major issue. We have to stop this continued problem of building  a certain project, THEN SPENDING the same amount of money in repairs a year later. One example is the Winnipeg football stadium,300 million to construct, and a year later we spend another 300 million to repair this.  Building the initial Chief Peguis Roadway extension, then finding that it was done wrong, ripped up and rebuilt, the Sturgeon Creek bridge over Ness, rebuilt in the late 1970s, rebuilt once more in the 1980s,and  finding out that it is now incorrectly built over a water main, and even before it is now finished ,it needs repairs again. This pattern of  tax payers waste has to stop now! Having the lowest standard of education , from no budget increases for several years to funding for special needs students being cut and denying them the same level of quality education that non special needs children get, then increasing property taxes, is just not fair to these children!

5. What is one thing in particular that you value about the electoral division that you wish to represent?

We are a friendly community, we have a diverse culture, we care about our community, when people move here, they generally do stay here. We are just big enough to feel like small town living. Very wonderful!

6. Do you have any other comments regarding your candidacy?

I will serve to the best of my ability, and use my background and hands on experience, to benefit Kirkfield Park as a whole. My family and I enjoy meeting all of you residents, and am going thru Kirkfield Park with the utmost respect for all of you. See you soon.
