Questionnaire Response

Narinder Johar - St. Norbert

1. Why did you decide to run in the 2016 Manitoba election?

I have been involved in serving the community of St. Norbert for many years now and I wanted to have a platform through which I could serve better and effectively. I am blessed to be living in Canada and have a desire to serve my country and would like to give back to society and the community of St. Norbert. I believe in empowering women and my slogan is “Safety, Security and Prosperity”. Running and eventually winning elections will allow me to fulfill my mandate, which is green environment, child and neighborhood safety, job growth and building infrastructure. I am aware of the issues in this area having lived here for the last several years, and certainly believe that I can work towards helping resolve them.

2. What experience will you bring to complement your role as MLA?

I am the only women candidate running from St. Norbert area and aware of the issues in this riding especially those facing women. I can connect easily with people and believe in empowering women. I belong to a working family, have worked as a day care teacher for several years, which has led to a better understanding of challenges being faced by the communities from grass root level. I strongly believe that I can work with local organizations/partners/agencies to resolve these issues.

My understanding of issues, my work ethics and my passion to serve and connect with community makes me well suited for the riding.

3. Is there anything in particular you would like to change in our province? In your electoral division?

I would like Manitoba to have a strong economy. This requires diversification of the economy and increased domestic and foreign investment.

I would also like to build infrastructure by making best use of road/air and waterways -developing Port of Churchill

I would work towards creating tourism in St Norbert and resolve key issues as identified below.

4. What key issue(s) / topic(s) would like to stand for in your role as MLA, and why is it important to you?

  • Lack of jobs,
  • Poor infrastructure,
  • Safety and security, especially for women, children and seniors
  • Emergency services,
  • Transportation,
  • Lack of affordable housing.
  • All above resonate with my mandate, day to day living/issues faced by a common man.

5. What is one thing in particular that you value about the electoral division that you wish to represent?

St Norbert is very diverse and I am proud to be part of such a diverse community and I wish to work towards empowering women, helping kids and seniors from all backgrounds.

6. Do you have any other comments regarding your candidacy?

My campaign is self-funded and I am utilizing my hard earned money to help others and benefit this community. Both my kids Harshraj and Sage are helping me run the campaign along with my sister, niece, nephew family and friends. I have travelled all around the world onboard ships while sailing as a Captain’s wife.
