Questionnaire Response

Wendy Sol - Lac du Bonnet

1. Why did you decide to run in the 2016 Manitoba election?

My family and I have lived, played and worked in the Constituency for more than 30 years and it is extremely important to me and my family that we re-elect a NDP Government because I know that they will protect the services our community counts on from Conservative cuts.

2. What experience will you bring to complement your role as MLA?

I was Vice President of the 2nd largest private sector union in Canada for 10 years. My experience as Director on several Boards and Commissions garnered me significant experience in negotiating, listening and mediating. I have made a career representing people and being their voice. I understand and appreciate the importance of good governance, transparency and credibility.

3. Is there anything in particular you would like to change in our province? In your electoral division?

I will work to implement the NDP’s plan to expand high speed internet in rural Manitoba. High Speed internet is not a luxury but rather a necessity for business, a life line for those who have mobility issues and just a right for all, to be able to connect with the world.

4. What key issue(s) / topic(s) would like to stand for in your role as MLA, and why is it important to you?

I am passionate about affordable and accessible child care. Child care is a fundamental support for families who are trying to balance work and family. The ability to work and provide for your family is critical to the wellbeing of a family. It is the single most important support I received that allowed me to return to the workforce and allowed my family to prosper.

I am also concerned about access to safe and reliable health care close to home. If we are to ensure a healthy and vibrant rural Manitoba we need to invest in health care for our communities, not cut front-line services like other parties have proposed.

5. What is one thing in particular that you value about the electoral division that you wish to represent?

The electoral division of Lac du Bonnet is the playground of Manitoba, with its rivers, lakes and parks it makes this constituency an absolute treasure.

6. Do you have any other comments regarding your candidacy?

The opportunity to run for public office and represent the people of Lac du Bonnet is a humbling and rewarding experience. Its an opportunity I take very seriously and I would be very proud to fight everyday for the constituents of Lac du Bonnet.
