Questionnaire Response

Zach Fleisher - Tuxedo

1. Why did you decide to run in the 2016 Manitoba election?

I’m running because, as a young person, I feel the NDP is making a lot of progress in continuing to move our province forward. We’ve made tremendous growth by investing in education, health care and jobs. I graduated with a high-quality university education and entered a strong jobs market. I know the difference these investments can make for the future generation. We’re also seeing a booming arts and culture sector, reconciliation with Indigenous people, and a resurgence of innovation in Manitoba. I don’t want to see this progress halted and I want to speak on behalf of the youth in Tuxedo and Manitoba in the Legislation.

2. What experience will you bring to complement your role as MLA?

I have a lot of experience of bringing people from all backgrounds and walks of life together in order to achieve commonly shared objectives and goals. I grew up in Tuxedo. I am also an effective leader. I was the Chairperson of the Canadian Federation of Students Manitoba and the Vice President Advocate of the University of Winnipeg Students Association. I am currently a press secretary for Cabinet, where I am inspired everyday by the passion and priorities of the NDP team. I look forward to adding my voice to this team for the residents of Tuxedo and all Manitobans.

3. Is there anything in particular you would like to change in our province? In your electoral division?

As the former chairperson for the Canadian Federation of Students Manitoba, I’d like to see continued investment in our post-secondary system in order to increase quality and maintain accessibility for everyone.

4. What key issue(s) / topic(s) would like to stand for in your role as MLA, and why is it important to you?

I’d like to see continued investment in active transportation projects, in order to encourage healthy lifestyles while also reducing greenhouse gas emissions.

5. What is one thing in particular that you value about the electoral division that you wish to represent?

Tuxedo is an incredibly diverse community where residents look out for another. It also includes many of the places that make Manitoba great, like the Leo Mol sculpture garden in Assiniboine Park.

6. Do you have any other comments regarding your candidacy?

It is an honour and a privilege to be able to put my name forward as a candidate and I want to thank the people of Tuxedo for considering me as their next representative in the Manitoba Legislature.
