Questionnaire Response

Roxane Dupuis - Dawson Trail

1. Why did you decide to run in the 2016 Manitoba election?

I feel that this election is an important one. We can continue to invest, or we can put in jeopardy services I rely on as a mother. I’ve always felt like the best way to make a difference is to be involved. After Ron Lemieux announced his retirement, I seized the opportunity to fill the void and continue to do great work for the good people in Dawson Trail.

2. What experience will you bring to complement your role as MLA?

Having worked for over 15 years in a not for profit youth association, I bring innovation and ingenuity. Working with young people has taught me the importance of following through and staying true to your word and I believe it’s important to be accessible and reliable. As an MLA, I would commit to being just as accessible to the people of Dawson Trail and work closely with constituents to continue to improve the quality of life in our communities.

3. Is there anything in particular you would like to change in our province? In your electoral division?

We need to continue to make investments in our schools to ensure that kids have the education and the support that they need in the classroom. We need to reduce our class sizes and continue to hire teachers. I want to be a vocal voice to ensure that rural areas such as Dawson Trail receive their share of investments because our communities are booming.

4. What key issue(s) / topic(s) would like to stand for in your role as MLA, and why is it important to you?

Having been raised as a proud francophone in Manitoba, I feel I have an opportunity to stand for and with minority groups in this province while continuing to reconcile with our First Nations. I also believe that education and families are areas that we need to continue to support, I am an advocate for youth in Manitoba. Having worked closely with them, I have seen their potential and I feel it’s important we continue to give them the tools they need to reach their potential. I think that the best way to do that is to engage them now so they are involved in the present as well as the future.

5. What is one thing in particular that you value about the electoral division that you wish to represent?

Dawson Trail is growing. The private sector and government have made important investments in our area and the quality of life and the quality of services in this area is attracting families and people from all over. As our communities grow, we need to continue to support our rural areas.

6. Do you have any other comments regarding your candidacy?

As we celebrate the 100th anniversary of women’s right to vote, I am reminded of the opportunity I have as a young woman in Manitoba to honour all women in this province by doing my part in this election.
